Storybook Illustration Thumbnails

  1. For what it's worth, I keep on returning to thumbnails #3 and #14. I have never seen this idea in all the semesters of students working on this story. The idea I find particularly exciting is that the Signal-Man, being obsessed with his visions in the tunnel, not only has a big window staring at the tunnel, but also positions all his furniture so he can stare at it constantly, as if he were mind-controlled, hypnotized by the window and the distant view of the tunnel. It reminds me of images of kings in their thrones looking ahead of them, or of Captain Nemo in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and how he had a commanding view of the ocean's depths through a huge glass window of his submarine, Nautilus. So that's where I gravitate (it also allows you to show both the inside of the house AND the railroad and tunnel in one illustration). Lots of potential. However, remember: the inside of the house must reflect the Signal-Man's mind and crazed personality. Let's see that!
